At a Shenzhen loading dock on Tuesday, a six-axis arm running X Square Robot's WALL-B foundation model sorted mixed parcels onto a conveyor at a claimed 1,816 per hour with over 98% accuracy, in a livestreamed real-world demo.
The job is "parcel induction," the front of every sorting line where a worker reaches into a chaotic pile of boxes and soft packages, picks one, orients it, and feeds the conveyor. The company calls it a "3D" task, dull, dirty, and dangerous, marked by high turnover and seasonal peaks that strain night shifts. The design target, per founder and CEO Wang Qian, is pile variability and recovery, not a single clean pick in an idealized environment.
The livestream is meant to put that argument on the public record. The numbers, though, are still X Square's own: no independent benchmark, no named customer, no deployment site, and no comparison to incumbent induction automation from Amazon Robotics, Berkshire Grey, Symbotic, or Plus One Robotics.
X Square's broader footprint is on the trade-press record: a Jinbei Auto joint venture, a D-Robotics and Holike partnership, a 58.com collaboration, elderly-care work, and a reported Series A++ near $140M. The open question is whether WALL-B's next test is a third-party warehouse, not another livestream.
