Creators must reapply starting September 8 under rules that require a paid Premium subscription, 500 verified followers, and 500,000 main feed (Home timeline) impressions from verified users over the prior 90 days.
X is shutting down its creator revenue-sharing program on September 7 and replacing it with a new "Original Content Rewards Program" that pays only for content X classifies as original, and only when the audience is paying.
Under the new rules, creators must be 18 or older, live in an eligible country, hold a paid Premium, Premium+, or Premium Business subscription, have at least 500 verified followers, and pull in 500,000 Home-timeline impressions from verified users in the prior 90 days. Payouts count only unique impressions from Premium users, and creators must keep meeting those thresholds to keep earning.
The "original" definition is narrow: a creator's own writing, reporting, photos, videos, memes, or illustrations qualify, as does meaningful commentary, analysis, or creative editing on others' posts. Captions and text overlays that just describe what is happening in someone else's content do not.
Current participants must reapply on September 8; new applicants can apply now. Allegra Jacchia, X's Head of Creator Monetization, framed the change as a quality and authenticity fix. The new rules hand X two levers at once: a paid-Premium impression gate that shrinks who can earn, and a content definition the platform controls.
What remains unknown: how payouts compare to the old program, and how many existing participants will clear the bar.
