Jensen Huang took the call on stage at the All In Summit in Los Angeles, in the same week the House rejected a push to take up AI safety legislation.
LOS ANGELES — On a stage in front of the people who build and fund America's AI, President Trump dialed in on Sunday to tell Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, and the rest of the room with him, that the fears driving AI safety legislation are "a hoax."
Huang was mid-talk at the All-In Summit in Los Angeles on Sept. 14, 2026, when he picked up the call and broadcast it over the venue audio. Trump told the room, per the American Bazaar: "The AI will not be taking over the rest of the world. The whole thing is a hoax… and the robots will not be taking over."
Huang, who sits on Trump's science and technology advisory council, replied on the call: "We're going to make sure that everybody wins in the AI race in America. Every industry, every company, every state, every people." The audience included two White House advisers, summit co-hosts David Friedberg and David Sacks, according to Fox Business and Quartz.
The dismissal landed in the same week House Speaker Mike Johnson was rejecting Democratic demands to cut recess short for AI safety legislation. Industry voices have publicly urged guardrails against catastrophic outcomes, a contrast the on-stage dismissal now has to answer to.
