Tata Consultancy Services is parking the speculative capex in a new subsidiary, isolating the 1 gigawatt Hyderabad AI buildout from its services balance sheet.
HyperVault, a subsidiary of Tata Consultancy Services, has secured 264 acres in Hyderabad for a planned AI data-centre campus of up to 1 gigawatt, per a filing dated 5 September 2026. The buildout is sized at up to Rs 70,000 crore (~$8 billion at current rates) from HyperVault and its partners, corroborated by Bloomberg, NDTV Profit, ThePrint, and Tribune India.
TCS is best known as an IT services firm, and parking the capex inside a new subsidiary keeps the speculative 1-GW build off the parent's services P&L. The filing says deployment will be "phased against customer demand and technology requirements," framing the 1 GW as a long-horizon ceiling rather than a near-term contracted build. No anchor hyperscaler tenant or offtake customer is named.
The campus is designed around high-density, liquid-cooled compute aimed at frontier AI companies and hyperscalers, with green energy and water-neutral design principles, and is expected to create "several thousand" direct and indirect jobs in Telangana. Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy called the project "historic," and TCS CEO K Krithivasan tied it to the company's "Infrastructure-to-Intelligence" strategy, per the Daily Pioneer report.
What remains unknown: who buys capacity in phase 1, how the capex is split between HyperVault and its partners, and whether any of the build is tied to a confirmed customer commitment.
