TALUS is a self-driving ground system from Boulder, Colo.-based Stratom, meant to carry fuel, ammunition, and other supplies from a main Army base out to small, scattered units whose normal supply convoys are under threat. The acronym stands for Tactical Autonomous Logistics Utility System. Stratom says the U.S. Army's Project Sustainment contract marks the platform's first public introduction.
President and CEO Mark Gordon describes the award as an 18-month prototype effort. TALUS is built to close the resupply gap between a Brigade Support Area, the large rear base that holds a brigade's main stock of fuel, food, and ammunition, and the smaller, dispersed units operating closer to the front. The Army's logistics planning has been pushing toward this kind of distributed resupply as future fights are expected to scatter small teams across wide, contested terrain where traditional convoys and airfields are easy targets.
Stratom is positioning TALUS as a modular platform supporting multiple logistics and operational-energy missions, built on militarized commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) technology to speed integration. The company declined to name TALUS team partners or specific underlying technologies, saying updates will follow as the program progresses.
Project Sustainment is not a Stratom-only bet. The Army has named at least three parallel 2026 awardees under the program: Stratom's TALUS team, American Rheinmetall (partnering with Harbinger), and BLADE, suggesting a multi-vendor prototyping strategy rather than a single winner. Stratom previously won Army work in 2022 through the DEVCOM Ground Vehicle Systems Center Combat Vehicle Robotics program.
