Sonos's next over-ear headphones have surfaced in FCC filings, the most concrete public signal that the rumored Ace Ultra is on track for a September launch.
The US regulatory listing is required before any wireless product can ship in the country, and it lines up with a Sonos launch event the company has on its September calendar. Any official reveal is weeks away, not months.
What neither the filing nor the leaks explains is what "Ultra" actually changes. Leaked imagery cited in the roundup, attributed to WinFuture, shows a design close to the original Ace, with bigger ear cups and a body slider, not a radical redesign. The ear pieces still look like a sibling of Apple's AirPods Max.
The original Sonos Ace, Sonos's first premium over-ear from about two years ago, drew a pointed complaint from the people who care most about the Sonos ecosystem. Its TV Audio Swap feature, the marquee trick of handing soundbar audio to the headphones, worked only with the Sonos Arc. Beam, Ray, and second-generation Arc owners could not use it. That is the gap the Ultra has to close, or the premium pitch loses its base.
Pricing, driver count, and codec support are still guesses. Sonos has not commented. September is the window for an answer.
