DayOne and Cortical Labs put the 20 unit cluster inside a National University of Singapore Medicine lab, calling it the world's first biologically integrated server rack. The energy claim is theirs.
DayOne, Cortical Labs, and NUS Medicine switched on what they call Singapore's first "biological data center" on 17 August 2026: 20 Cortical Labs CL1 units inside a Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine laboratory.
A CL1 is a biological computer. It grows neurons from stem cells on a silicon array, letting living cells process electrical signals alongside conventional chips. The companies describe the deployment as "the first independently operated biologically integrated server rack in the world" and say biological systems can run certain tasks on "a fraction of the wattage" required by digital computers. Both claims appear only in the DayOne press release and aren't independently benchmarked.
At 20 units, the deployment is a research demonstrator, not a production facility: no commercial customer, no published workload, no third-party energy measurement. DayOne's corporate page frames the project as a sustainability-aligned alternative to silicon infrastructure, with named exploration areas spanning neuro-inspired AI, biomedical modeling, drug discovery, and neurological disease research.
Singapore is expanding AI capacity under tighter energy and water guardrails, which gives the announcement a receptive news cycle. DayOne and Cortical Labs haven't named a production workload, a follow-on site, or a benchmarking partner. None appears in the release.
