OpenAI Reportedly Plans to Add Sora Video Generation to ChatGPT

OpenAI plans to soon launch its AI video generator Sora directly in ChatGPT, according to The Information, citing people familiar with the matter.

The integration would bring Sora's text-to-video capabilities into OpenAI's flagship chatbot, following a similar path to how DALL-E image generation was added to ChatGPT. Sora launched as a standalone app in September 2025, letting users create AI-generated videos from text prompts.

The move comes after the standalone Sora app saw installs plunge 45% in January 2026, per WinBuzzer. Integrating it into ChatGPT could give the video tool significantly more visibility and usage.

Sora competes with text-to-video tools from Meta and Google's Gemini. While text-centric AI models have seen broad adoption at home and work, video and image generation represent the next frontier for AI disruption.

OpenAI will continue operating the Sora standalone app alongside the ChatGPT integration, The Information noted.
