OpenAI Releases GPT-5.4 With Native Computer Use and 1M Token Context
OpenAI has released GPT-5.4, calling it the company's "most capable and efficient frontier model for professional work." The release includes native computer-use capabilities—a first for a general-purpose model—alongside a 1 million token context window and significant improvements in coding, reasoning, and tool use.
"GPT-5.4 brings together the best of our recent advances in reasoning, coding, and agentic workflows into a single frontier model," OpenAI noted. The model incorporates the coding capabilities from GPT-5.3-Codex while adding native computer use, enabling agents to operate computers and carry out complex workflows across applications.
The benchmark results are substantial:
On the factual accuracy front, GPT-5.4 is "our most factual model yet," according to OpenAI. Individual claims are 33% less likely to be false, and full responses are 18% less likely to contain any errors, compared to GPT-5.2.
The model also introduces tool search, which reduces token overhead for tool-heavy workflows by dynamically looking up tool definitions rather than including all of them upfront. And it's OpenAI's most token-efficient reasoning model, using significantly fewer tokens than GPT-5.2 to solve problems.
GPT-5.4 is available in ChatGPT (as GPT-5.4 Thinking), the API, and Codex. A higher-performance GPT-5.4 Pro is also available for complex tasks.
