The Pentagon just awarded a $371 million sole source space contract to Modern Technology Solutions Inc., the third such deal the company has won in roughly a year. Only $24 million of the ceiling is obligated at award.
Modern Technology Solutions Inc. has now collected three major sole-source space contracts in roughly twelve months. The latest, a $371 million time-and-materials deal the Department of War announced Friday, puts the company on the systems-engineering and technical assistance bench for the Space Rapid Capabilities Office, the Pentagon's rapid-acquisition arm for sensitive space programs.
The Air Force is the contracting activity, and the deal runs through Aug. 23, 2031. The company will perform the work primarily in Albuquerque, with Kirtland Air Force Base as the contracting seat. Only $24 million in fiscal 2026 research, development, test and evaluation funds are obligated at award — a small fraction of the $371M ceiling, which is the routine shape of a time-and-materials contract.
The Space Rapid Capabilities Office award lands inside a wider MTSI footprint in space. In January 2025, the Space Force tapped the company for a $640 million Defensive Cyber Operations for Space contract (one-year base plus four option years). A $111 million modification to its Space Systems Command space-based interceptors work followed in November 2025. Each of those awards was also a sole-source deal, per trade-press reporting.
The Pentagon did not solicit competing bids for any of the three contracts. The open question is how much more of that work MTSI absorbs before fiscal 2026 ends.
