A folder swap in the free game Trove exposes Nvidia's cloud gaming rig, including an RTX 5080, until Nvidia patches the loophole.
Two modders (Zortos and dpadGuy) published a step-by-step method to turn a free-to-play game on Nvidia's paid GeForce Now service into a doorway to a full remote Windows desktop. They used the access to run a 31-billion-parameter AI model on subscription hardware.
GeForce Now normally streams a game's video feed to a browser. The trick works by replacing an executable in the free-to-play game Trove, which exposes the Steam client's full interface and, behind it, the remote Windows desktop running on Nvidia's servers. The access only works on the paid Ultimate tier, not on the free tier or on partner services.
The hardware it reaches is a server-class machine: an AMD Epyc 9375F 32-core CPU, a GeForce RTX 5080 with 48GB of VRAM, and 56GB of system RAM. Zortos has already used it to run LM Studio with the Gemma 4 31B model at about 41 tokens per second, with more demos promised.
The workaround sits outside GeForce Now's terms of service, and Nvidia is widely expected to close the loophole. Any account that tries it risks suspension or a ban, and the broader concern, that this kind of off-label access turns a consumer streaming product into a general-purpose cloud PC, is now part of the public discussion on Nvidia's own forum.
