Midea users can now query home environment, energy use, and maintenance through Alibaba's consumer AI assistant, the Qwen App, after binding the brand's 小美AI Agent (Midea's in home AI assistant, branded in Chinese as 小美 / Xiaomei), with the link
Midea joined Alibaba's Qwen App on August 10 as the consumer AI assistant's "exclusive home appliance partner." After binding Midea's 小美AI Agent (Xiaomei, the brand's in-home AI assistant), users can ask the Qwen App for a home environment report, device energy use, and consumables or maintenance bookings — capabilities confirmed in Lei Feng Wang's coverage of the deal.
The connection runs on Alibaba's own A2A (Agent-to-Agent) protocol, a communication layer for direct appliance-AI to phone-AI exchanges, not the cross-industry A2A spec. The Qwen App itself already bundles more than 400 task-completion capabilities across Taobao, Fliggy, and Amap, according to Alibaba Cloud's blog, and Alibaba officially launched the Qwen project on November 13, 2025, repositioning the Qwen model family from enterprise tooling toward a high-frequency personal assistant.
The two companies have also signed a broader strategic agreement covering a so-called "home AI brain" and IoT interoperability, and point to future integration with Taobao Shangou (quick-commerce), Hema (grocery), and Amap — still a roadmap, not a live product in users' homes.
The "exclusive home appliance partner" framing is the companies' own positioning. Whether rival appliance makers follow, and what Midea trades for handing the home AI front door to Alibaba, remains unverified by independent sourcing.
