Microsoft confirmed LG will disable the McAfee ad on its monitor app, but the LG Monitor App Installer and the Windows Update channel that delivered it remain.
Microsoft has disabled the McAfee pop-up that an LG monitor app was pushing on Windows 11 boots. The app itself, and the Windows Update path that delivered it, is still in place.
The behavior was first documented by The Register and corroborated by other outlets, including the tech YouTube channel Gamers Nexus, which paid for a retail LG UltraGear unit and replicated the pop-up across multiple Windows 11 machines. The LG Monitor App Installer arrived alongside the monitor's driver update, then pushed a lower-right pop-up ad on each boot, most often a 30-day McAfee free trial, with occasional pitches for other LG-branded apps. Windows Latest tied the surge in user complaints to a recent LG app changelog that added McAfee as an additional bundled application.
Pavan Davuluri, confirmed on a social media post that LG has agreed to disable the McAfee pop-up. The fix is narrow. Microsoft framed it as a partner-ecosystem adjustment rather than a change to how Windows Update handles third-party OEM software, and the LG Monitor App Installer stays available. The channel that lets monitor manufacturers ship software through driver updates also remains open to LG and other vendors.
Users who want to check their own machines can look for "LG Monitor App Installer" in the Windows Installed Apps list. Microsoft's pressure on LG applies only to the McAfee ad, not the underlying install path.
