Korean humanoid maker Holiday Robotics raised a reported 155B won Series A, the country's largest early stage round, to ship 100 units of its wheeled factory robot 'Friday' near 100 million won per unit.
Friday doesn't walk. It rolls. That single design choice is why Holiday Robotics can target a 100 million won price tag on a 176 cm manufacturing humanoid, and why its 155 billion won Series A, reported by the Seoul Economic Daily on July 13 as the largest raised by a domestic Korean startup, is structured as a bet on factory-floor unit economics rather than bipedal robotics. At an exchange rate of roughly 1,400 won to the dollar, the round is worth about $110 million, though the USD figure moves with the won and should be read as approximate.
The company framed Friday for a narrow, repetitive job: stand alongside human workers on a manufacturing line, repeat the same pick-and-place or machine-tending motion all day, and be priced like an industrial tool rather than a research prototype. To make that math work, Holiday Robotics skipped the bipedal locomotion stack that defines the most visible humanoids from Tesla's Optimus to Figure's 01. Friday rides a differential-drive wheeled base, the same approach Unitree used in its G1-D variant, which keeps actuators, batteries, and balance-control software out of the cost stack that makes walking humanoids expensive.
Walking is the most expensive function a humanoid can attempt, and a meaningful share of the field-failure rate on a biped comes from falls, slips, and recovery routines that have no equivalent on a wheeled base. A wheeled platform replaces that stack with a mobile pedestal. The robot still has the arm span, hand count, and reach that factories want, but the part of the system most likely to need on-site service is also the part with the most mature industrial supply chain.
Wheels take the robot out of stairways, sloped warehouses, and unstructured retail floors, and they rule out any use case that needs to climb onto or into a fixture. For Holiday Robotics' target customer, a flat, fenced manufacturing line, that limitation is the design brief, not a compromise.
Korea Development Bank and Industrial Bank of Korea anchor the round, joined by IMM Investment, Goodwater Capital, and a long list of domestic and cross-border funds including Stonebridge Ventures, Atinum Investment, Intervest, Springcamp, SL Investment, KB Investment, Bon Angels Venture Partners, Premier Partners, Ermes Investment, SJ Investment Partners, Dasung Ventures, and Atinum Capital Partners. State-backed lenders and growth-stage crossover funds are not the natural backers for a research-stage biped. They typically show up when a company is being financed to ship.
SEDaily reports that Holiday Robotics aims to ship about 100 units this year, scale to 1,000 next year, and build out manufacturing capacity for more than 10,000 units annually over the longer term. The company has put a near-term price target of around 100 million won on each unit, which works out to roughly $72,000 at recent rates, and plans to grow R&D headcount to more than 100 people. CEO Song Ki-young, a serial entrepreneur and computer-vision veteran by background, has set H2 2026 commercialization as the milestone.
The numbers only make sense if Friday crosses a specific threshold on the customer side: when a 100 million won humanoid is cheaper per hour than the labor it replaces, and reliable enough that a line manager trusts it on the second shift. Korean factory labor costs and tight demographic headwinds are the reason a domestic buyer might reach for a humanoid at all. The price target sits close to that comparison point, and the production curve is what the round is funding. If 100 units ship by year-end at the stated price, Holiday Robotics is at roughly the scale where the bet starts to look like a product business rather than a press release.
None of the production, price, or headcount numbers are yet delivered results. The round and the roadmap are the company-stated path, and the public sources do not yet show a customer name, a paid pilot, or a per-unit bill of materials. The interesting question is not whether Friday works in a lab, which several humanoids already do, but whether a wheeled base and a sub-100M-won price tag are enough to put 100 of these on a Korean line by December.
