Singapore's Land Transport Authority says over 11,500 have ridden the free driverless shuttles; paid fares start in Q4 2026.
Singapore's Land Transport Authority (LTA) and Grab said on 29 July 2026 that the country's Punggol district will get an on-demand driverless shuttle pilot, letting riders book a direct trip between any existing pick-up and drop-off point instead of waiting on a fixed loop.
The trial opens to riders in the next few months, with a gradual public rollout and commercial fares starting in Q4 2026, LTA said. Grab operates routes 1 and 3; ComfortDelGro continues to run route 2. Both still run free rides.
The pivot is grounded in ridership data. LTA's July post-ride survey found 99% of around 900 respondents felt safe and would recommend the ride, with flexible boarding and direct routes topping rider requests: the same flexibility the pilot now delivers. More than 11,500 unique riders had taken a driverless trip as of 12 July, and Grab's fleet has clocked about 90,000km on local roads since the start of 2026, per Grab.
Grab is adding more pick-up and drop-off points in Punggol this year in consultation with LTA and the community, and has set up a local depot for the wider fleet. Revenue service, originally targeted for 1 April 2026, has slipped to Q4 2026.
