Two vendors are merging airspace tracking with on device extraction so investigators can tie a seized drone to a flight history and a person, not just an airframe.
When a drone is seized near a stadium, a critical-infrastructure site, or a prison, the evidence problem is no longer just the airframe. The harder question is where the airframe has been, who was flying it, and what its onboard data ties to. SkySafe, a U.S. drone-detection and airspace-intelligence company, and Cellebrite, an Israel-based digital forensics firm best known for extracting data from mobile phones, are now offering law enforcement a single workflow for that question.
Their exclusive partnership, announced this week, joins SkySafe's historical flight, sighting, and tracking records with Cellebrite's on-device extraction tool, the CFID platform. The practical result is a new chain of custody. Once a drone is physically mitigated, a Cellebrite device can pull what is stored in the drone's memory: media, flight logs, controller pairings, and any identifying data the device has captured. SkySafe contributes the prior layer: where the drone had flown before the seizure, how often it had appeared in the area, and whether it was part of a recurring pattern. Investigators can then merge the two streams into a single case file.
The pressure test for that workflow is already running. Federal agencies have reported seizing more than 600 drones flying too close to World Cup match sites and fan zones since the tournament began, turning a recurring airspace problem into a recurring evidence problem on a fixed schedule.
The procurement signal is concrete. The integrated device, branded CFID V3 with SkySafe, is listed on SAM.gov as a federal contract opportunity under Solicitation N6328525QS-K, indicating that the U.S. government is positioning to buy the combined capability rather than treating it as a one-off pilot.
For SkySafe, the move extends a tracking business into a forensics business. "By combining our drone detection and historical tracking with Cellebrite's investigative technology, we are enabling investigators to move from an event in the airspace to actionable evidence in the case file," SkySafe CEO Grant Jordan said in the joint announcement. For Cellebrite, the deal extends a phone-and-device forensics practice. The work put the company at the center of law-enforcement toolchains years ago; now it adds the drone category. "This expanded partnership allows us to bring our digital investigation expertise to a new class of devices that have rapidly become part of modern investigations," Cellebrite CMO David Gee said in the same release.
Both executives frame the integration as "exclusive," a word that signals go-to-market pairing rather than a technical lock. Trade-press coverage of the announcement echoes that framing, though it does not list competing forensic alternatives already in use inside departments.
Every on-record voice in the deal is a vendor executive. No independent law-enforcement customer has yet described running a seized drone through the integrated device end-to-end, so the chain-of-custody claim is currently a vendor design rather than a proven workflow. The 600+ World Cup seizure figure is also attributed in the trade press to federal law enforcement, with no open primary data behind it in the current bundle.
That gap is the watch item. The mechanism on paper is straightforward: physical seizure, device-side extraction, historical telemetry match, merged case file. The mechanism in practice will depend on how the device handles a fleet of consumer drones with encrypted logs, partial wipe, or stripped media, and on whether the chain of custody survives courtroom challenge. The CFID V3 listing on SAM.gov confirms the procurement question is open. The investigative question is still being answered.
