Framework told pre-order customers this week that its flagship Laptop 13 Pro is being pushed back by roughly a month so the company can fix two defects it identified before mass production. The first is a haptic touchpad whose printed circuit board had an unwanted grounding path that required a redesign. The second is a custom display firmware bug that needs an update before panels roll off the line. Mass production was halted until both could be fixed, according to Engadget's report on the customer email.
The blast radius of that halt is unusually small. The haptic touchpad and the custom display are specific to the flagship configuration. Mainboards equipped with Intel's new Core Ultra Series 3 (Panther Lake) chips, replacement modules, and repair parts are not affected by the delay and will still ship on time, as Engadget reported. The Panther Lake mainboards were part of the original Laptop 13 Pro launch coverage earlier this quarter.
That containment is the practical case for modularity, not the marketing version. A sealed-laptop vendor that found the same two defects would have to choose between shipping a buggy product, eating a recall, or pushing back the whole lineup. Framework can pause one product, name both failure modes publicly, and keep everything else moving.
For pre-order customers, the company has opened two doors. Anyone who does not want to wait can cancel and receive a full refund. And buyers who want to stay in the queue can adjust their RAM configuration, an option Framework tied to broader retail scarcity of LPCAMM2 memory, a shortage the company has nicknamed the "RAMpocalypse."
The September recovery target is Framework's own forecast. The company said it does not expect further deadline slippage and expects to be back on track by September, per the customer communication. That is a claim, not a confirmed fact. The previous slip shows how quickly a two-defect fix can stretch, and whether Framework actually hits September is the watch item for anyone who already pre-ordered the flagship.
