Flytrex will park delivery drones on restaurant rooftops across Dallas-Fort Worth and wait for the kitchen to clip the order directly to the aircraft, the company announced Tuesday. The setup pairs a small rooftop landing dock with predictive AI that decides, before any order is placed, which restaurant rooftops should hold a drone.
A drone lands on a dock atop an existing rooftop, shuts down its motors, and lowers a hook. A restaurant employee clips the packaged order to that hook without touching the aircraft, sidestepping the hub-and-spoke pickup flight and the runner who would otherwise carry food from the kitchen to a separate launch site.
Flytrex says the system cuts delivery cost by 60% and customer delivery times by half, with installation underway at 100-plus active merchant locations in the metro. Those numbers are the company's own and have not been independently verified. CEO Amit Regev frames the bottleneck as "the last few hundred feet between the kitchen and the aircraft" rather than the flight itself.
Whether the kitchen-to-aircraft step was the real binding cost, or whether flight, weather, FAA permissions, and customer density are the heavier constraints, is a question only third-party operator data, restaurant-partner confirmation, or a comparison to Wing, Zipline, Manna, or DroneUp would answer. None of that is in the announcement.
