Federal Judge Halts CDC Childhood Vaccine Overhaul
A federal judge has paused the Trump administration's overhaul of the childhood vaccine schedule in a court order that deals a significant setback to Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s immunization policy agenda.
The ruling follows an earlier decision that blocked key parts of Kennedy's efforts to reshape vaccine policy, including his appointees to the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP).
The judge issued a preliminary injunction halting the CDC's revised childhood vaccination schedule, which had reduced the number of recommended shots and downgraded recommendations for several diseases.
Medical organizations, including the American Academy of Pediatrics, had challenged the changes in court, arguing they were implemented without proper scientific review and would reduce vaccination rates, potentially leading to outbreaks of preventable diseases.
The administration is expected to appeal the decision.
