Joint Tesla–SpaceX facility, announced in March as the Advanced Technology Chip Fab, shows foundation work and four new permits for a contractor trailer complex.
Drone videographer Joe Tegtmeyer, who regularly documents Musk-affiliated Texas sites, has captured the Advanced Technology Chip Fab (ATCF) moving from announcement to construction. In recent flyovers, Tegtmeyer observed crews driving GeoPiers (drilled concrete columns used to stabilize soft Texas soil), laying gravel mix, and grading the south end of the plot.
The ATCF is a joint Tesla–SpaceX project announced on March 21, 2026. It is meant to combine logic, memory, and advanced packaging under one roof, with output slated for Tesla vehicles, Optimus (Tesla's humanoid robot), and orbital AI data centers. Four permits have been filed in recent days for a trailer complex housing general contractors and temporary Tesla offices.
ATCF sits separately from the much larger Terafab, a multi-party, ~1TW/year megaproject planned roughly 100 miles east in Grimes County, Texas. SpaceX has filed for a $55 billion semiconductor fab in rural Texas, while CNBC has reported the broader Terafab program could cost up to $119 billion. Those figures describe the Terafab, not ATCF.
