AI coding assistant Cursor launched a ₹649-a-month India-only subscription on Monday — about $7 in U.S. dollars and roughly a third of its $20 Pro tier — its first country-specific plan.
"Cursor Start" bills in Indian rupees with credit, debit, and UPI support, and Cursor said it will run VPN and proxy checks to keep the plan inside India. It includes Cursor's Composer 2.5 and xAI's Grok 4.5, plus cloud agents, the iOS app, plugins, Model Context Protocol support, hooks, and skills. It excludes frontier models from OpenAI and Anthropic, and advanced features such as Bugbot, Auto Mode, Automations, and the Cursor SDK.
India is Cursor's third-largest market and its highest concentration of power users, with the user base more than tripling over the past year, according to the company. The launch lands weeks before the expected close of SpaceX's acquisition of Anysphere, Cursor's parent, first reported by TechCrunch in June.
"We felt that we had an opportunity there to right-size the commercial model and drive scale," Simon Green, Cursor's head of Asia-Pacific and Japan, told TechCrunch.
The backdrop: India has 27 million GitHub developers, second only to the U.S.
