Anthropic has signed a roughly $10 billion, six-year cloud compute deal with Volta, an AI cloud startup founded earlier this year, according to Bloomberg and re-reported by TechCrunch. Anthropic declined to comment; the original report cited anonymous sources.
The capacity sits at a 133-megawatt Norway data center co-developed with Bitdeer, a publicly traded crypto-mining firm pivoting into AI infrastructure. The site will run on Nvidia's next-generation Vera Rubin chip architecture, with phased expansion planned for Texas and Wyoming. Volta is part of Nvidia's Cloud Partner program and pitches itself as a way to spread the cost of new chips to smaller AI labs.
Volta was incorporated in the UK in January 2026 by ex-Brookfield infrastructure operators Ricard Boada Rafart and Sofia Gumuzio. It raised $300 million in equity at a $2.4 billion valuation, co-led by Andreessen Horowitz and Altimeter with Nvidia and Michael Dell participating, plus a $5 billion financing pool arranged by Azora. The board, per UK Companies House, includes a16z's Jamin Ball and Rangarajan Raghuram.
The deal is Anthropic's latest in a compute-expansion run that has also included recent agreements with SpaceX and Amazon. With Volta seven months old and Bitdeer better known for crypto mining, the partnership's credibility rests on capacity that has yet to be built.
