AI strategy has migrated from the CTO's desk to the boardroom, and the room just added two Korean chairs. When the leaders running a chip-and-devices giant and a mobility-and-robotics giant take the same advisory seat as the CEO of the dominant AI compute vendor, the AI agenda is being set one level above where most coverage still lives.
The mechanism is the chairman-level appointment. Samsung Electronics Executive Chairman Lee Jae-yong and Hyundai Motor Group Executive Chair Euisun Chung are not sending division heads to Semafor's "Silicon Valley & The World" forum debuting in November 2026. They are sitting alongside Jensen Huang and Satya Nadella, where capital allocation and policy voice, not engineering, are the unit of work. The pre-existing ties make the move legible: a photographed Gangnam chicken-restaurant dinner on Oct. 30, 2025 between Lee, Chung, and Huang is the trail of a relationship already promoted from product roadmap to capital table.
The reusable pattern: when industrial incumbents whose P&Ls depend on physical assets (foundries, factories, vehicles) need a voice in AI governance, the advisory circle stops being a CTO network and becomes a board-level capital-and-policy forum. Korea's two largest chaebol are now in that room.
