In one active mine, GRAVIO produced a 3D ground model that matched drill-hole ground truth to better than 95 percent, Atomionics reports, a result against a problem the operator already knows the answer to, since the drill-holes are the ground truth. The same Atomionics announcement commits the company to passive mapping of seabed and water-column mass, where there is no comparable ground truth and where Atomionics itself flags practical detection as under development. The 95 percent number travels between those two regimes as if they were the same problem. They are not. A drill-validated mine match proves the instrument survives industrial vibration. It does not prove the instrument sees a sub-kilometre marine target it has never been asked to see. Cap Vista, Enterprise Singapore, and MINDEF's Future Systems and Technology Directorate are betting on a hub, not on a marine sensor. So is everyone watching this space. The mechanism repeats anywhere a high-confidence benchmark on a known-answer problem is offered as evidence of capability on an unknown-answer one: the benchmark is real, the inference is not, and the inferential gap is what gets sold.
