Envision, a wind turbine and battery conglomerate, says its Ulanqab campus will run on power from self built wind farms, the first test of its 5 GW by 2030 'Gobi Mission' export thesis.
Envision Group, the Chinese wind-turbine and battery conglomerate, said on Wednesday it had brought online what it calls the world's largest AI data center: a million-GPU-class campus in Ulanqab, Inner Mongolia that the company is also wiring to a self-built wind farm and a dedicated transmission line.
The announcement was a press release provided by Envision and republished by QbitAI, the Chinese tech outlet, and the "world's largest" claim is the company's own. The launch is the first flagship of Envision's "Gobi Mission," a program unveiled at VivaTech 2026 that targets 5 gigawatts of green-powered AI compute across global desert regions by 2030. Zheng Zihao, general manager of Envision's AI Data Center unit, said the campus is a template for power-constrained markets: grid interconnection, not chip supply, is the binding constraint there.
Envision claims the Ulanqab "Star River Base" will pack a million-card cluster and million-petaflop compute into about 120,000 square meters of data-hall space, with total campus capacity above 2 GW and a stated local green-power share of 67 percent. The company says output could reach ten times that of a conventional data center of the same footprint.
The campus sits inside one of China's eight national "East-West Compute" hub nodes, a 2022 state plan to route data-center work to the country's western provinces. The same release was carried by Yicai, Sina Finance, and NetEase using identical wording, and no independent verification of cluster size, power mix, or grid-connection schedule was identified.
