Weave Robotics' $7,999 Isaac 1 is a wheeled home robot that folds laundry, makes beds, and tidies toys. The product, though, is the design around the cameras: a pair of mechanical shutters that click open and shut over its head cameras, and a privacy screen that drops when the robot returns to its charging dock.
The San Francisco startup began taking orders for Isaac 1 on July 19, with consumer deliveries slated to begin in fall 2026 (Robot Report). The robot costs $7,999 outright or $449 per month on a subscription (Weave Robotics). It stands between three and five-foot-nine, rides a wheeled base, and has two arms ending in two-finger parallel grippers. The face is cartoon-like, the shell is soft fabric.
The $449-per-month subscription is a way to spread the $7,999 price, not a discount: at that rate, the cumulative subscription cost crosses the outright price in about 18 months. Weave's launch materials do not break down what the monthly fee includes or what happens at the end of the subscription term.
The shutters sit over two head cameras. When the robot needs to navigate or recognize a task, the covers retract. When the work is done, or when the owner has set a do-not-watch schedule through the companion app, the covers slide back into place. There is no software "off" indicator to take on faith, no LED to interpret, no privacy policy to read. The robot either shows its lenses or it does not.
The charging dock extends the same idea. When Isaac 1 returns to charge, a privacy screen pulls across the front of the dock and the robot disappears from the room.
The eight-hour battery, two-hour recharge, and autonomous room-to-room navigation are the price of admission for a consumer home robot in 2026 (Robot Report). Those specifications buy entry. The shutters are the bet.
Weave did not arrive at the design by accident. The company sold an earlier unit, Isaac 0, to early customers in the San Francisco area and used those deployments to train the AI model on laundry folding (Robot Report). Isaac 0 was a business product: install in an afternoon, plug into a standard wall outlet, run for about 30 minutes per load. The lessons from running a robot inside other people's homes, not labs or warehouses, appear to have shaped what Isaac 1 chooses to advertise.
The wheeled base is part of the same template. A bipedal humanoid is the default mental image for a home robot, but bipedal locomotion is where most of the unresolved safety, cost, and reliability questions sit. A wheeled base with an adjustable-height torso trades the science-fiction look for a smaller engineering surface area. Two arms, two fingers, a swiveling head, a body that reaches upper cabinets and lower shelves: enough to fold a shirt and pick up a toy. Not enough to climb stairs, and the company is not pretending otherwise.
The category is not "first mobile humanoid." That framing is a Weave marketing line, and other wheeled home humanoids from established developers have longer deployment histories, which complicates the "first" claim. The honest category is "consumer-priced wheeled home robot with an explicit privacy off-state." Smaller, more useful, and the one worth tracking.
For now, the design template hinges on whether the visible privacy gestures survive contact with the actual product. Shutter mechanisms can jam, dock screens can fail, and the eight-hour battery claim has not been independently tested against a real home. Fall 2026 deliveries will be the first read. If Isaac 1 works as advertised, the company will have set a category expectation: home robots that ask for trust should let the owner switch them off by hand. If the shutters and screen turn out to be marketing with moving parts, the design language collapses back into software promises.
Either way, the question every home robot launch should now be asked is the one Weave chose to design around: can the owner see, and physically disable, the camera?
